A private key is a secret cryptographic code that gives you full control over your cryptocurrency. Anyone with your private key can access and transfer your funds.
Private key security rules: Never share your private key, do not store digitally in plain text, use hardware wallets for large holdings, and keep secure physical backups.
Private key formats: Raw hexadecimal string, WIF (Wallet Import Format), seed phrase (12-24 words), and keystore file with password.
If you lose your private key, you lose access to your funds permanently. There is no password reset or recovery option in decentralized systems.
